From Fundraisers to Festivals: Save A Life’s Summer Season
By: Maggie Rogers
Save A Life started up their summer of fun with our 2nd Annual Battle of the Bands! On Saturday, June 28th, Unknown J, Brady’s Grown Up Time, Vox Populi, Coelacanth, Nick Wood, Only The Few, and The Amp Breakers took to the stage, trying to win the vote from the crowd! Not only did we have a great crowd in the building but our online crowd watching the livestream cheered on the groups! We also welcomed the Bangor Chapter of Guitars for Vets this year! Admission to the event was free and once you came in you were given a raffle ticket. These tickets were what the groups were playing for! Once you decided who your favorite was you dropped your ticket in your group’s jar. Coming in second place was Coelacanth, a band local to Lincoln! In first place was Nick Wood playing his original music! Nick very generously donated his winnings back to Save A Life to support our cause. Thank you, Nick!
The big prize comes on Saturday, July 19th at 4pm when you can catch both Coelacanth and Nick Wood opening for the Loon Festival Saturday Concert before the fireworks! Congratulations! If you are interested in a jam session you can find most if not all the members of Coelacanth at our Music Jam on Saturday nights at 5pm!
The following weekend found Ashley and I at the Burlington-Lowell 4th of July Celebration! We had a table at the vendor market where we passed out resources, answered questions, had great conversations, as well as making friendship bracelets and keychains! We saw many of our friends from Lincoln and met a lot of new people! We had a great seat for the parade as we watched all the participants walk, stroll, wheel, or trot by!
Next up! You guessed it! We will be at Lincoln’s LoonFest all three days (July 17th - 19th) at the vendor market at Veteran’s Square. With the theme this year being “Party Like It’s 1999!” Ashley and I are in our element! Stop by our table to learn more about Save A Life, gather some resources, chat with us, or just come say hi! We will also have Narcan available for free for those that would like to pick some up. Do not be surprised if you see Ashley and I dancing to classic ‘90s hits when you stop by our table! Also - don’t forget to check out our Battle of the Bands winners on Saturday at 4pm!
Mark your calendars for a fun night on Friday, September 5th! We are going to round out the summer with our Annual Block Party right at Save A Life to kick off Recovery Month! If you came last year you know the drill! We will have food, music, and fun for all ages! Jet and Emily are returning for all your Haiku needs, Lily Mitchell will be singing, and many local community resources will be there to help celebrate Recovery Month with us! This is a free community event and all are welcome! After our night of celebration and fun you can find us at Lincoln’s Septemberfest the next day!
It is going to be a jam packed and fun filled summer at Save A Life! We hope to see you at one of the events above or through our doors at 19 VFW Street. Whether you are in active addiction, in recovery, an affected other, or a member of the community, you are welcome and you matter.
